Background

Anyone can gain experience. It takes farsighted vision and a particular kind of-dare we say?-genius to take experience and vision and to create a solution for problems that haven't yet arrived on the business landscape, but which are coming soon. Communicado was founded by people with just that combination of expertise and leadership.

The company was founded as Communicado in 2001 by brothers Kerry and Kevin Shih and engineering expert Sal Ingrilli. With the bigger idea of streamlining all real-time, person-to-person collaboration well into the future, they took their combined experience developing management solutions for complex data transactions and call centers and crafted a groundbreaking call accounting and voice systems management solution.

VXTracker takes an early lead in the distributed, multi-vendor voice market

The VXTracker communications management platform first shipped in 2003. Backed by a $400,000 investment from a forward-thinking early stage venture group, CEO Kerry Shih and his team started recruiting value-added resellers and systems integrators to market the product throughout North America. In just over two years, VXTracker software became the leading voice expense and operations management product for distributed multi-vendor environments. The product supports more than 40 different PBX platforms with hundreds of different integration options.

In 2005, it became clear that the future of enterprise telephony was going to be based on the voice-over-IP protocols and the "convergence" of voice communications onto organizations' IP data network. Kerry directed our development team to investigate how Communicado products could be enhanced to help the transition and on-going operation of this new converged environment. With a next-generation platform architecture laid out, Communicado sought additional capital to fund product development. In late 2005, we announced that $4 million dollars in venture capital had been secured from the highly respected investment firms Hummer Winblad Venture Partners and Clearstone Venture Partners.

Announcing the Streamline Managed Services Platform

In August 2007, Communicado made two major announcements: first, our name changed to Communicado, which expresses our commitment to keeping business communicating clearly and trouble-free. Second, we've released our next major product offering, the Streamline Service Management Platform, which drastically simplifies the process of moving to and managing converged communications on an ongoing basis.

Streamline enables simplified converged communications beginning with a trouble-free transition to VoIP, augmenting existing network and application-management capabilities with the additional functionality required for dial-tone-level, 99.999% availability of real-time, person-to-person communications. Streamline provides the only risk-free path to the streamlined business processes, cost reduction and mobility promised by unified communications.

Communicado's operations are headquartered in Costa Mesa, California, and our company operates an additional development center in India. VXTracker software is used by more than 400 enterprises at thousands of locations around the world and has won numerous Best of Show and Product of the Year awards from leading industry events and publications. We were recently honored by being named one of Network World's "10 VoIP Companies to Watch."
